Doula Services

Hope started work as a birth and postpartum doula in 2015, after becoming a mom for the first time. She was trained by Trena Slaunwhite Gallant and has gone on to be mentored by Jillian Hand and Sarah Minty. She is working toward DONA certification and is a member of the Doula Collective of Newfoundland and Labrador. Hope’s work as a pre- and postnatal yoga teacher informs her doula work greatly, using over 150 hours of training relating to the physical, emotional and spiritual care of the pregnant, birthing and postpartum family. As a yogi, Hope knows that each birthing person has exactly what they need to birth their baby and care for them well. She helps tap into that inner power and knowledge by providing information, unconditional support, and love. Hope facilitates a satisfying and positive birth experience and helps families joyfully adapt to the changes and challenges bought by a new baby.

Why hire a doula?

WHY HIRE A DOULA

A doula provides non-clinical physical, emotional and informational support to the birthing parent and their partner, before, during and after birth. Birth doulas assist parents in outlining a vision for their birth, along with helping them find any information and resources they might need to do so. During birth, a doula is with the family continuously, each step of the way, guiding them through the beautiful and arduous process of bringing a human into the world. After birth, a birth doula can assist with breast or bottle feeding, processing the birth experience, and informational and resource help for any questions that arise. A postpartum doula takes a more involved role in the early days of welcoming a new baby, helping with all the above tasks as well as housework, pets, running errands, cooking, integrating new siblings and answering any questions about postpartum life.
